Smart Hours event
Current status
Alliant Energy only calls Smart Hours events during times of
high temperature or if a peak energy warning is declared.
What happens during a Smart Hours event?
In the Summer:
We use your thermostat’s schedule as a guide, to pre-cool your home before an event, and then run your air conditioner a little less often during the event when energy demand is expected to peak. Your home's temperature may feel a little cooler at first, but this step is designed to keep you comfortable during the rest of the Smart Hours event. Try to resist the urge to adjust your thermostat. All customers enrolled in Smart Hours may participate during summer events.
In the Winter:
We use your thermostat’s schedule as a guide, to pre-heat your home before an event, and then run your furnace a little less often during the event when energy demand is expected to peak. Try to resist the urge to adjust your thermostat. Only customers enrolled in Smart Hours who receive their electricity and gas from Alliant Energy qualify for events in the winter.
